Chiefs Add Justin Tucker to Practice Squad as Butker Struggles

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Justin Tucker to their practice squad on October 28, bringing the former Baltimore Ravens kicker back to an NFL roster after a season-long suspension and an extended period without a team. Harrison Butker remains on Kansas City’s roster as the team’s kicker for now.

Butker has made 11 of 16 field-goal attempts this season, a career-low 68.8% rate. In Sunday’s 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, he missed two of three attempts, including a 58-yard try and a 45-yard kick. He has also missed an extra point.

Tucker, 36, received a 10-game ban covering the 2025 season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The league’s action followed allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior by 16 massage therapists at Baltimore-area spas. Tucker has denied wrongdoing. The Ravens released him in May 2025, and he has not played in an NFL game since.

A Pro Bowler on seven occasions and an All-Pro five times, Tucker has converted 89.1% of his career field-goal attempts. His last NFL season, 2024, was his least accurate: he made 73.3% of his field goals. He had workouts with several teams after leaving Baltimore but did not sign with one before Kansas City.

The Chiefs worked out other kickers before adding Tucker. The practice-squad move gives the team another option while Butker works through his struggles, though it does not immediately remove Butker from the roster.
