Rays Walk Off Brewers in 12th to Force Game 5
Tampa Bay faced a 3-0 series deficit and the prospect of a sweep when the teams entered extra innings tied 2-2. Cooper Pratt put Milwaukee ahead with a solo homer in the top of the 12th, his fourth hit of the night, bringing the Brewers within three outs of their first World Series title.
The Rays answered in the bottom half. A fielding miscue by third baseman Joey Ortiz let Junior Caminero reach base, and Liam Hicks followed with a single. Jonny DeLuca’s hit brought pinch-runner Cedric Mullins home to tie the score. Chandler Simpson then singled to load the bases with no outs.
Pinch-hitter Ben Williamson ended the game with a single that scored the winning run, giving Tampa Bay its first victory of the series. Williamson had entered the game with one hit in 15 postseason at-bats. The Rays’ win also ended Milwaukee’s eight-game postseason winning streak.
Tampa Bay’s bullpen covered eight innings, with Nick Martinez and Bryan Baker each working two scoreless frames. Game 5 is scheduled for October 28 at Tropicana Field. The Rays must win again to keep the series going; Milwaukee remains one win from the championship.
