Alabama Beats LSU as Fan Shouts at Kiffin on Hot Mic

LSU led 13-10 in the third quarter, but Alabama scored to retake the lead and held the Tigers to a field goal for the rest of the game. The 31-13 result ended LSU’s home winning streak and left the Tigers 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the SEC. Alabama improved to 7-2, with a 5-2 conference record.

With 4:52 left and LSU facing first-and-10 at Alabama’s 15-yard line, a fan’s voice came through an ABC hot microphone: “Hey, Lane, f— you!” The person’s identity and team allegiance were unclear. Broadcasters Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit continued their commentary without addressing the outburst.

Kiffin called the ending disappointing, saying LSU played poorly for the final 18 minutes after taking the lead. He pointed to missed chances on fourth down and in the red zone, despite LSU gaining 457 yards to Alabama’s 285. The Tigers went 0-for-4 on fourth down, he said, and Alabama’s aggressive blitzing caused problems near the goal line.

Kiffin said the team had to return to work rather than dwell on its record. LSU is scheduled to host Texas on November 14, then visit Tennessee the following week. Kiffin described the Texas game as another opportunity to play a nationally prominent opponent.
