Lagway Leads Baylor Past Iowa State 42-31

Baylor rallied from a 17-7 second-quarter deficit to defeat Iowa State 42-31 on November 7, in the Bears’ first home game since coach Dave Aranda was fired. The win lifted Baylor to 6-3 and gave interim coach Joe Klanderman a 2-0 start.

Quarterback DJ Lagway threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for a career-high 119 yards and another score. His 54-yard touchdown run began Baylor’s surge. Late in the first half, Baylor guard Koltin Sieracki fell on a loose ball across the goal line, giving the Bears a lasting lead.

Baylor scored four straight touchdowns, including Lagway’s 62-yard pass to Taz Williams Jr. and Ryelan Morris’ 33-yard run, which made it 35-17 midway through the third quarter. Lagway completed 16 of 28 passes without an interception.

Iowa State cut into the lead in the fourth quarter, but Baylor held on. Cyclones quarterback Jaylen Raynor threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Aiden Flora ran 26 times for 182 yards, including a 40-yard score. Iowa State fell to 4-5 after its third loss in four games.

Baylor gave up 31 points, its season high, but shut out Iowa State in the third quarter. The Bears visit No. 7 BYU next Saturday; Iowa State hosts Cincinnati.
