Galloway Calls Musk a Traitor and Invokes Rosenbergs’ Execution
Scott Galloway said on his Prof G Podcast on November 3 that Elon Musk was a “traitor to the West,” drawing a comparison between Musk’s handling of Starlink in Ukraine and the case of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who were executed in 1953 after convictions related to espionage for the Soviet Union.
Galloway posed a hypothetical involving aviator Charles Lindbergh and a company whose guidance systems were switched off during a military operation. He said the scenario resembled accounts that SpaceX had restricted Starlink speeds in Ukraine, disrupting Ukrainian military operations during the war with Russia.
Musk has said Ukraine used Starlink contrary to the service’s restrictions. He said the civilian service had never been allowed for offensive drone strikes intended to kill people.
Galloway also made similar remarks on the Pivot show featuring Kara Swisher, saying Musk should face the same standards as other traitors. Theo Wold, a former White House domestic policy aide during Donald Trump’s first term, criticized the comparison, saying Musk had committed no crime and accusing Galloway of promoting a partisan effort and endorsing violence against political opponents.
The Rosenbergs were convicted over the theft of American nuclear information and executed in 1953. Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Musk’s Starlink Role Sparks Treason Rhetoric
Scott Galloway’s comparison of Elon Musk to executed Soviet spies puts a stark question before the public: should a powerful technology executive be beyond accountability when decisions about his company’s services affect a war?
On November 3, the NYU professor and podcaster said on his Prof G Podcast that Musk was a “traitor to the West.” Galloway linked his charge to accounts that SpaceX restricted Starlink speeds in Ukraine, disrupting Ukrainian military operations during Russia’s war. He used a hypothetical about Charles Lindbergh and disabled guidance systems to make the point.
Musk has said Ukraine used Starlink in violation of restrictions, and that the civilian service was never permitted for offensive drone strikes meant to kill people. Galloway also made similar remarks on Pivot, saying Musk should face the same standards as other traitors.
The Rosenbergs, whom Galloway invoked, were convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage over the theft of American nuclear information and executed in 1953. The comparison is incendiary, but it highlights the stakes of allowing private control of communications infrastructure to shape military operations.
Theo Wold, a former Trump White House domestic policy aide, rejected the comparison. He said Musk had committed no crime and accused Galloway of pushing a partisan campaign and endorsing violence against political opponents. Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Galloway’s Musk Attack Turns Political Grievance Into Treason Talk
Scott Galloway’s call to treat Elon Musk like a traitor exposes how quickly political anger can turn into demands for punishment. Galloway invoked the Rosenbergs, who were executed after espionage convictions, while accusing Musk of betraying the West.
On November 3, the NYU professor and podcaster argued on his Prof G Podcast that Musk’s handling of Starlink in Ukraine resembled a hypothetical wartime betrayal. His comparison followed accounts that SpaceX restricted Starlink speeds there, disrupting Ukrainian military operations during Russia’s war.
Musk has said Ukraine used the civilian service in violation of its restrictions and that it was never allowed for offensive drone strikes intended to kill people. Galloway repeated similar rhetoric on Pivot, saying Musk deserves treatment equal to that given other traitors.
The Rosenbergs were convicted over the theft of American nuclear information and executed in 1953. Theo Wold, a former White House domestic policy aide under Donald Trump, said comparing Musk to them was ludicrous. He argued Musk’s support for Republicans was protected expression, not a crime, and accused Galloway of promoting a partisan witch hunt and endorsing violence against political opponents.
Galloway’s remarks leave no distinction between criticizing Musk’s decisions and treating him as a criminal traitor. Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
