LeCharles Bentley Criticizes Jared Verse’s On-Field Production

Former NFL offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley criticized Browns defensive end Jared Verse after Cleveland lost 27-6 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Verse had exchanged public barbs with Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward in the lead-up to the game, but Cleveland’s defense could not prevent the defeat.

In a post on X, Bentley compared Verse to someone who provoked fights with talk but failed to back it up. Bentley said the person eventually learned to stop talking after being beaten up.

Verse has 18 tackles, including 10 solo stops and four tackles for loss, through eight games. He has not recorded a sack, though he has hit opposing quarterbacks six times. His production places him near the bottom of the league in several categories, the report said.

Verse recently said the defense had not faced enough third-and-long situations to give him chances to produce statistics. Bentley’s criticism focused on the contrast between Verse’s visibility and his results on the field.

The 26-year-old still has time this season to improve. Cleveland is scheduled to visit the New Orleans Saints on November 8, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. Eastern at Caesars Superdome.
