Bronx Vigil Honors Teen Killed on His Way to School

Students, relatives and community members gathered in the Claremont section of the Bronx on November 5 to honor Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old killed while on his way to school. The vigil took place near East 171st Street and Crotona Place, where he was shot in the stomach, organizers said.

Frimpong’s family thanked supporters for their care. His brother, Kenneth Frimpong, remembered him as a strong science student. The teenager, a Ghanaian immigrant, had hoped to become a doctor. His mother has called for justice in her son’s death.

Students stopped at the vigil after school to pay their respects. Residents spoke about the toll of shootings on young people in the neighborhood. The event, organized by the National Ghana Parade Council, also called for an end to gun violence and bullying.

Police are searching for three masked teenagers in connection with the shooting. Surveillance footage captured someone matching that description running from the scene. Catherine Kabuki Cudjoe, of the organizing council, urged those responsible to turn themselves in. The investigation is ongoing.

Reported by CBS New York, ABC7 New York.
