The Gilded Age Sets New Premiere Audience Record

The figure represents a 25% increase over the third-season premiere, which averaged 3.2 million viewers over the same initial period. HBO said the latest count includes viewing across its television network and streaming platform. The first episode aired November 1.

The show’s audience has grown beyond its opening-week numbers: Season 3 eventually averaged 8.8 million viewers per episode after additional viewing was counted. That longer-term total offers a broader measure of the series’ reach than the early figures for the new season.

Season 4 follows the fallout from Bertha Russell’s changes to high society. Agnes van Rhijn sees a chance to reclaim her standing, while Marian pursues a different future and Peggy seeks acceptance from her future in-laws.

New episodes air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max, with the season finale scheduled for December 20. The series was created by Julian Fellowes, who is also a writer and executive producer. The ensemble features Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon and Morgan Spector.
