Four Face Fire Charges After Lorton Training Facility Blaze
On November 5, Fairfax County authorities announced additional charges involving four individuals related to a June blaze that heavily damaged a training facility in Lorton. The June 27 blaze caused an estimated $1 million to $1.3 million in damage. No one was injured.
Ricky Torres, 26, of Fairfax, faces an allegation of setting fire to personal property. Brice Bartley, 18, of Fairfax, and a 17-year-old face charges for reckless fire-setting. Aidan Smith, 18, of Clifton, is accused in two cases involving damage to personal property by fire. One concerns the June 27 fire; the other relates to a separate fire at the site on June 25.
Firefighters arrived at the Furnace Road facility at about 5:20 p.m. and found the heavy-equipment storage building engulfed. Investigators reviewing surveillance video saw several people enter before the fire and leave after it began. Community tips helped authorities identify a vehicle connected to the investigation.
The four were among six people previously charged by county police with trespassing and burglary in relation to the June 27 incident. Fire investigators obtained warrants for the new charges, and the investigation remains open. Authorities are asking anyone who may know something to get in touch with the Fairfax County fire and rescue agency.
