Three Trade Ideas for the Winless Chargers
With Los Angeles the NFL’s only winless team at 0-7, possible roster moves before the November 10 trade deadline include trading two veteran defenders and adding a cornerback. The deadline is set for 4 p.m. ET, leaving general manager Joe Hortiz a short window to consider the options.
One proposal is to trade edge rusher Khalil Mack, with a 2027 fourth-round pick suggested as the possible return. The case for a deal is that Mack is an older veteran still playing well who could compete for a postseason contender. Rookie first-round pick Akheem Mesidor has played well enough to take on a starting role, though head coach Jim Harbaugh has said he wants Mack to remain with the Chargers.
The team could also explore acquiring cornerback JuJu Brents from Miami for a 2027 fifth-round pick. The 2023 second-round selection of Indianapolis has moved to the Dolphins and has been solid there. Los Angeles could use added depth after safety Derwin James Jr. went on injured reserve, with Cam Hart, Tarheeb Still and Donte Jackson among the other available options. Practice-squad cornerback Isas Waxter also showed promise in his only start.
A third idea is to trade defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson for a 2027 seventh-round pick. Tomlinson has been injured, but showed flashes early in the season. The proposed deal would give a healthy Tomlinson a chance to help a contender needing run defense, while the Chargers would move on from a player described as a one-year rental.
