Pursuit suspect arrested near San Ysidro border crossing
Riverside County deputies began pursuing the suspect in Jurupa Valley at about 6:46 p.m. on November 4 after attempting a traffic stop near Van Buren Boulevard and Clay Street. The driver did not stop, and deputies followed the vehicle west on the 91 Freeway and south on Interstate 15, then crossed into the county and continued south on the 5 Freeway. The pursuit covered nearly 120 miles, sheriff’s officials said.
The chase ended near the U.S.-Mexico border, close to the San Ysidro Port of Entry, where the suspect was taken into custody. Border agency personnel fired toward the suspect near the port, but it was not clear whether the person was struck.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported that no deputies took part in a shooting or were injured. The California Highway Patrol said it was not involved in a shooting and had responded to help manage traffic. The San Ysidro port closed shortly after the incident, and traffic was diverted toward Otay Mesa. CHP also redirected southbound 5 Freeway traffic at the Camino de la Plaza area toward the port and closed roads nearby. The investigation remains ongoing.
