$11.4 Million in Nvidia Hardware Vanishes From California Truck

A food transport company’s truck left Oakland on August 29 with six pallets of Nvidia chips and other computer equipment valued at $11.4 million. The shipment was headed to Fort Worth, Texas, but the driver eventually stopped responding to dispatch and the cargo never arrived.

Investigators followed the vehicle to San Bernardino County, where its trail went cold. The truck made several stops that lasted hours, and authorities believe some vehicles used by suspects were obtained in Southern California. Police were not notified until early September, leaving time for the shipment to be moved. No arrests have been announced.

The theft comes amid repeated targeting of costly computing equipment sought for data centers. In a separate incident, thieves who took two Nvidia- and PlusAI-branded trailers from a Newark warehouse found they contained sand, not computer hardware. Another California cargo theft involved a trailer carrying data center servers that was later found empty.

Cargo theft has become more lucrative as demand for AI equipment has grown. Thieves have also used trucking firms’ business details to pose as legitimate carriers and take shipments, sometimes interfering with vehicle tracking systems.
