Lamont Wins Third Term as Connecticut Democrats Sweep House Races
Ned Lamont won reelection as Connecticut’s governor on November 3, defeating Republican challenger Ryan Fazio and securing a third term. The race was called for the incumbent, who first took office in 2019.
Lamont thanked Connecticut voters in a social media post, saying he was humbled by their trust and that his administration would return to work the next day. When he announced his third-term campaign, he had said he believed his work was not finished.
Democrats also swept Connecticut’s five U.S. House races. Luke Bronin, Hartford’s previous mayor, won the seat after beating Democratic Rep. John Larson in the primary.
Fazio drew national attention in 2021 when he flipped a state Senate seat in a district Joe Biden had carried by 25 points. The Republican State Leadership Committee celebrated that result at the time as the first state legislative seat flipped by either party in a 2021 special election. Fazio later challenged Lamont for governor, but the incumbent prevailed.
Connecticut Voters Give Lamont a Third Term and Democrats a House Sweep
Connecticut voters returned Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont to office for a third term on November 3, rejecting Republican challenger Ryan Fazio. The result keeps the incumbent, first elected in 2018 and in office since 2019, at the helm of the state for another term.
Lamont thanked voters for their trust and said he would get back to work the next day. During his campaign announcement, he had said he believed his job was not finished. His reelection gives Democrats a clear statewide victory, alongside wins in all five of Connecticut’s U.S. House races.
Hartford’s former mayor, Luke Bronin, won the seat after beating Democratic Rep. John Larson in the primary. The results underscore the breadth of Democratic success in the state on election night.
Fazio had attracted national attention in 2021 by flipping a state Senate district that Joe Biden had won by 25 points. But his earlier breakthrough did not carry him past Lamont in the governor’s race. The outcome leaves voters’ choice of the incumbent—and the Democratic sweep of the House contests—as the defining results from Connecticut.
Lamont Holds Connecticut as Republicans Fall Short Statewide
Connecticut Republicans fell short statewide on November 3: incumbent Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont defeated Ryan Fazio, and Democrats won all five U.S. House races. Lamont’s third-term victory keeps him in office after first taking the governorship in 2019.
Fazio had previously shown Republicans could compete in Democratic-leaning territory. In 2021, he flipped a state Senate seat in a district Joe Biden had carried by 25 points, a result celebrated by the Republican State Leadership Committee as a first for that year’s special elections. That achievement did not translate into a win against Lamont.
Democrat Luke Bronin, Hartford’s previous mayor, won the seat after beating Democratic Rep. John Larson in the primary.
Lamont thanked voters for their trust and said he would return to work the next day. He had declared when announcing his bid for another term that he considered his work unfinished. With the governor’s race and all five House contests going to Democrats, Republicans leave election night without a statewide victory in the results described.
