WWE Sets John Cena Classic at Disney World
Cena revealed the event during Monday Night Raw at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The competition will be held at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Florida, alongside a second Raw episode that day, following a morning broadcast from Perth, Australia. The Classic will stream on Netflix.
WWE plans to bring together wrestlers from Raw, SmackDown and NXT to compete for a newly designed championship, modeled on Cena’s former spinner-style WWE title. The format has not been fully detailed. Club WWE members are expected to have a role in deciding the champion, and wrestlers who lose individual matches may still have a path to winning the overall event.
Cena invited Rhodes, who joined him in the ring. Cena praised Rhodes and said he would continue announcing participants during appearances on NXT, SmackDown and at Survivor Series.
The event is part of an expanded WWE-Disney partnership. On December 15, WWE will stage a separate Avengers: Doomsday-themed Worlds Collide event at the sports complex, featuring wrestlers from WWE, NXT and AAA. Two-day tickets are planned, along with an on-site WWE World fan experience and co-branded merchandise for sale at the event, Disney stores and WWE’s online shop.
