Cowherd Urges Steelers to Move on From Metcalf
Metcalf caught one of six passes thrown his way for four yards in Pittsburgh’s 27-6 victory over the Browns in Week 8. He also let a deep pass slip through his hands and into the grasp of Cleveland cornerback Denzel Ward in the second half.
Cowherd said Steelers general manager Omar Khan should cut ties with the 28-year-old receiver, arguing his play had declined and that his contract would become more costly next season. He also claimed Metcalf was frustrating quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Pittsburgh obtained Metcalf and a sixth-round pick from Seattle before the 2025 season, sending the Seahawks a second- and seventh-round pick. Metcalf recorded 862 receiving yards and seven touchdowns last season; this year, he has 378 yards and one touchdown.
After the trade, Pittsburgh gave Metcalf an extension spanning four years and worth $132 million. While the deal will no longer be guaranteed, moving on next season would leave the team with a $38.4 million dead-cap charge. Cowherd argued Pittsburgh should not keep prioritizing Metcalf merely to justify the trade.
Angelichio said the Steelers had not lost confidence in Metcalf despite his performance against Cleveland. Pittsburgh has a bye before facing the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10 on Sunday Night Football.
