Franklinville Man Arrested in Girlfriend’s Fatal Shooting
Police say Ferrera shot and killed Cruz, his girlfriend, inside a residence along Porchtown Road in Franklinville early on November 2. He was arrested later that day and charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses, including unlawfully possessing a firearm after a prior gun-related conviction, prosecutors said.
A witness told police she was upstairs with her three children when she heard gunshots. She went downstairs and found Cruz on the living room floor. The witness said Ferrera and Cruz had argued about two hours before the shooting and that Ferrera drove away afterward.
Another witness in a bedroom on the first floor told police that after the argument, there were two gunshots and a thud. Cruz had two gunshot wounds and died at the location, the complaint states.
Prosecutors also charged Ferrera with possessing a firearm to use unlawfully against another person. The complaint says he had an earlier conviction for illegal firearm possession. A prosecutor’s office spokesperson declined to discuss his earlier charges.
