Trump’s Economic Promises Meet a Mixed Election-Day Record

Donald Trump campaigned in 2024 on quickly lowering living costs and transforming the U.S. economy. His message appealed to voters worn down by years of high inflation during Joe Biden’s presidency, which saw the sharpest price increases in decades.

By Election Day, some of Trump’s promises had been met: the stock market was booming and eggs were cheaper. Many other pledges, however, had fallen short, and Trump was deeply underwater in polling on the economy.

The economy ranks among voters’ top concerns in this election. Democrats are hoping dissatisfaction will help them win on Tuesday. Trump had promised to bring down inflation, but his administration has not lowered it to the Federal Reserve’s preferred 2% rate.

The record therefore offers voters a mix of gains and unmet expectations: visible improvements in the market and egg prices, alongside inflation that remains above the Fed’s benchmark and broader promises that have not been fulfilled so far. Economic discontent is a central factor in the election, though the available figures do not specify how voters will respond.
