Protesters interrupt Trump’s Iowa rally as he discusses Hinson’s weight
Trump was speaking at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque in support of Hinson, who is seeking to keep Iowa’s Senate seat Republican in the November 3 election. He described her past weight loss and said she had achieved it without using medication before a protester interrupted him.
Trump dismissed the demonstrator as a paid protester and compared the person to an insect. The crowd chanted “USA” as police removed the protester without incident.
Trump claimed protesters typically appear two or three at each rally and are paid $250 by George Soros. He complained that the interruption came just as he was approaching his punchline, then resumed praising Hinson for getting in shape.
Other protesters interrupted the speech as well. After a third person shouted, Trump called the protester stupid. He later welcomed Hinson to the stage with a kiss on the cheek.
The Dubuque rally was one of two events Trump staged on November 1, with another in Salina, Kansas. Hinson is running against Democratic state Representative Josh Turek, and polling showed the race was nearly even.
Trump’s Hinson Rally Turns to Weight Talk and Protester Attacks
With Iowa’s Senate race described as nearly even, Trump used a campaign rally for Republican candidate Ashley Hinson to dwell on her past weight and weight loss. The discussion was interrupted by a protester, and Trump responded by calling demonstrators paid and comparing one to a bug.
The crowd chanted “USA” as police escorted the protester out. Trump claimed protesters are paid $250 by George Soros, then returned to praising Hinson for getting in shape. Other interruptions followed; after a third protester shouted, Trump called that person stupid.
The episode put Trump’s remarks about a woman candidate’s appearance at the center of a rally meant to support her bid to keep Iowa’s Senate seat Republican. Hinson faces Democratic state Representative Josh Turek, and the election is November 3. Trump also held a rally in Salina, Kansas, on November 1.
Protesters Disrupt Trump’s Iowa Rally for Hinson
Trump’s rally for Hinson was repeatedly interrupted, pulling attention away from the Republican candidate’s campaign message just days before the November 3 election. Trump said protesters were paid $250 by George Soros and dismissed them as losers; police removed one demonstrator without incident.
The interruptions came as Trump discussed Hinson’s weight loss. He returned to praising her for getting in shape, while protesters continued to interrupt. After a third person shouted, Trump called the protester stupid.
The disruptions do not change the stakes of the race: Hinson is seeking to keep Iowa’s Senate seat Republican and faces Democratic state Representative Josh Turek. Polling showed the contest was nearly even. Trump’s Dubuque event was one of two rallies he held on November 1, with another in Salina, Kansas.
