Browns’ Pittsburgh Loss Ties NFL Road Losing Streak Record
The Browns’ 27-6 loss to the Steelers in Pittsburgh on November 1 tied the NFL record for consecutive regular-season road losses against a single opponent. Cleveland fell to 5-3 and has not won a regular-season game in Pittsburgh since October 5, 2003. Its 2021 postseason victory there did not affect the streak.
Cleveland’s offense struggled from the outset. The Browns gained just 14 yards over their first three drives, with fumbles by tight end Harold Fannin Jr. and quarterback Deshaun Watson contributing to the slow start. Watson finished with 27 completions for 324 yards, but no touchdown passes, and was sacked eight times. His 33 sacks are the most in the NFL, the game account said.
The Browns also lost 80 yards to penalties. Pittsburgh took advantage of Cleveland’s early mistakes and ran for 200 yards. Defensive end Jared Verse, who had criticized the Steelers before the game, recorded only an assisted tackle. Cleveland coach Todd Monken said the team’s youth did not excuse the turnovers or its failure to maintain composure.
The Lions set the previous mark with 23 straight regular-season road losses to Green Bay from 1992 to 2014. Cleveland’s next chance to improve comes November 8, when it visits New Orleans; Houston is next on the schedule before the Browns’ later-month bye. Monken said the team would keep working to improve.
