Unbeaten Utah Hosts BYU in Top-10 Rivalry Clash
The undefeated Utes and one-loss Cougars both won on October 31, setting up a high-stakes meeting at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Utah routed Cincinnati 49-25, while BYU held off Arizona State 27-20. The game puts two top-10 Big 12 teams against each other, with conference positioning and rivalry pride at stake.
Utah has been especially productive on the ground, averaging 226.9 rushing yards per game, eighth-best in the FBS. Against Cincinnati, Wayshawn Parker gained 82 yards on seven carries, and Daniel Bray added 75. Quarterback Devon Dampier contributed 45 rushing yards and passed for 260.
BYU’s defense has allowed 100 rushing yards per game, ranking 20th nationally. The Cougars could also get running back L.J. Martin back after he missed four games with an injury. His availability would matter for an offense that has leaned heavily on freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who threw for 236 yards against Arizona State.
BYU’s latest win included two turnovers, but the Cougars finished with an 11-play, 95-yard scoring drive to extend their lead late. Their defense also limited Arizona State receiver Reed Harris to one catch for four yards. Utah, meanwhile, scored twice on defense against Cincinnati.
The teams’ season numbers show a contrast: Utah averages 38.9 points per game, while BYU’s defense has given up 18.8. Utah is favored by 5.5 points. After the rivalry game, both teams are scheduled to play again on November 14, with Utah visiting Arizona and BYU hosting Baylor.
