Maher Challenges Trump’s Claims After White House Dinner
Bill Maher used his October 30 Real Time monologue to answer a Truth Social post in which President Donald Trump attacked him after their October 15 dinner at the White House. Trump’s post was more than 1,300 words and called Maher a “complete and total loser.” The dinner also included Kid Rock and ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith.
Maher joked about the length of the post and compared dining with Trump to dating Taylor Swift, saying the encounter seemed enjoyable at the time but brought criticism afterward. He said the dinners were meant to allow the two men to talk and disagree without hating each other, and said Trump listened during their conversations in person.
Reading from a printed copy, Maher disputed Trump’s assertions that he had called the president repeatedly and invited himself to the White House. Maher said Trump was the one who called him, and argued that the White House invitation claim made little sense. He also rejected Trump’s description of his appearance at the dinner, pointing to photographs from the event.
Trump’s post also accused Maher of opposing disarming Iran. Maher played clips from his show that he said demonstrated the opposite. He acknowledged Trump’s insult about him being a loser in a joke, then said the president had misrepresented his views. Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, a guest on the program, called Maher’s monologue funny. Maher said he was trying not to turn the exchange into a fight.
