Colandrea Re-signs With Nebraska for 2027
Colandrea’s agreement gives Nebraska coach Matt Rhule continuity at quarterback as the Huskers plan for next season. The senior has thrown for 1,570 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions this season, while adding 334 rushing yards and four scores, according to figures cited in coverage of the deal.
Nebraska started 5-0 but has since lost consecutive games to Indiana and Oregon by three points each. Colandrea has been a key part of an offense averaging 35.5 points per game, second-best in the Big Ten entering Week 9.
Rhule had recently said SEC programs were contacting Colandrea about potentially playing elsewhere. The quarterback’s return settles one major question for Nebraska ahead of the transfer portal period, which opens January 4, and could help the staff recruit or retain offensive players around an established starter.
Colandrea transferred to Nebraska after playing at UNLV. Former Huskers quarterback Dylan Raiola left for Oregon ahead of the 2026 season. Nebraska also expects five-star quarterback recruit Trae Taylor to arrive in January, provided he remains committed and signs in December; he could compete for the job while learning from Colandrea.
Nebraska is scheduled to face Washington on October 31 as it tries to end its two-game skid. Colandrea’s agreement gives the Huskers a head start on planning for 2027, though the terms of his deal have not been disclosed.
