Coral Springs Caregiver Accused of Taking Money From Elderly Client
Police say the investigation began in March after the woman told relatives she was running short of money. Her niece and the niece’s husband then noticed frequent deposits and cash withdrawals involving the woman’s accounts. Wade, 60, had cared for her for nearly five years and was the only person investigators identified as having access to the accounts.
Investigators counted 354 cash withdrawals totaling $217,343.89 between May 2022 and April 2026. They also found 94 checks, worth a total of $303,000, deposited into an account belonging to Wade between April 2022 and April 2026. Eight transfers totaling $202,396.14 moved money from the client’s retirement account to her own money market account; police included these transfers in their review of the financial activity.
Police say Bank of America provided 41 surveillance recordings showing a woman resembling Wade making deposits and withdrawals. Investigators said the woman drove a red Toyota matching Wade’s registered vehicle, and the client’s relatives identified her in the footage. The niece told police the client’s eyesight had declined and she could no longer read statements or write checks. Wade had permission to use the client’s credit card for her needs, but not to withdraw money or deposit checks for herself, the niece said.
Wade faces charges including grand theft and exploitation of an elderly person, each involving alleged losses of at least $100,000, as well as a charge related to unauthorized use of personal identification. Her attorney said she would not give investigators a statement. Wade’s son defended her, saying she earned $400 a week as a caregiver and that “someone is setting her up.”
